QSD Daily News:Abia government lifted restrictions on the operation of tricycles and motorcycles

The Abia state government has lifted restrictions on the use of tricycles and motorcycles in the state.

The state Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu made the disclosure in a statement in Umuahia on Monday.

Recall that the state government last week had fixed July 1, 2024 as the start date for restricting the passage of tricycles and motorcycles between 7.pm and 6.am.

The statement said the suspension was made in response to pleas from the public.

The statement reads in part: “The public is hereby informed that the Abia State Government’s planned restriction of the movement of three-wheeles (keke) and motorcycles (Okada) between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. today (Monday, July 1, 2024) has now been changed to commence on August 1, 2024.
However, the counting and registration of all commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles in the transport sector of Abia State will begin today as scheduled.

“This adjustment is in response to the numerous requests of the Abia people to give them more time to prepare for the effective implementation and enforcement of the policy.”
